Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Wide receiver Lauren Williams, who played for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europa last season, signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Avengers on Wednesday.

Williams (6-foot-3, 205 pounds) signed a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders on Jan. 29, 2007, and was later allocated to Rhein, where he had 12 receptions for 162 yards. Following that overseas experience with the Fire, Williams participated in the Raiders' training camp until he was waived on Aug. 26.

"We're always looking for big, tall, physical receivers and Lauren fits that description well," Avenger head coach Ed Hodgkiss said. "We had him in for a workout and were really impressed. We're looking forward to seeing what he can do in the Arena League."

Williams was a three-year letterman (2003-05) at Liberty University (Lynchburg, Va.). He finished his collegiate career with 70 receptions for 1,391 yards and eight touchdowns. Williams burst upon the scene at Liberty as a sophomore in 2003, earning All-Big South Conference honors.

This past season, the Avengers finished second in the Arena Football League's Western Division, compiling a 9-7 regular-season record before defeating the Utah Blaze, 64-42, at STAPLES Center to register the franchise's first postseason victory.

Avenger 2008 season tickets, which include nine games played at STAPLES Center, are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or www.laavengers.com.
