Avengers sign Antuan Simmons

February 4, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Avengers have signed defensive specialist Antuan Simmons (5-foot-10, 195 pounds, USC).

He was subsequently placed on the injured reserve list today and will not be eligible to join the active roster until Feb. 18.

Simmons was an Arena Football League rookie last season with the Avengers and led the team with 79 tackles. He also had two interceptions. During the offseason he signed a free agent contract with the Las Vegas Gladiators, but was waived prior to the start of the regular season.

In returning to the Avengers, Simmons is reunited with three former USC teammates -- FB/LB Lonnie Ford, OL/DL Bernard Riley and offensive specialist Kareem Kelly. All four of those Avengers were on the 1999, 2000 and 2001 Trojan squads.

The Avengers (1-0) will return to action tomorrow morning (Feb. 5) as they take on the Philadelphia Soul (1-0) at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. The game, which features Los Angeles going against its former quarterback Tony Graziani, will kick off at 10 a.m. (Pacific) and be televised on KNBC Channel 4. The contest also will be broadcast live on XTRA Sports AM 570, ESPN Deportes (1330-AM) and SIRIUS Satellite Radio (channel 181).

After another road game on Feb. 12, at Grand Rapids, the Avengers will return home to STAPLES Center to face the Chicago Rush. That contest will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and be televised on FSN West 2.

Prorated Avenger season ticket packages are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com. Single-game tickets may be purchased at the STAPLES Center box office, at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com and by calling 213-480-3232.
