Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES - Even though it is the off-season, Avenger players, coaches and "A-Team" dancers regularly visit schools, hospitals and community events.

This week, "A-Team" dancers Katie and Lindsey spent Sunday, Sept.10 at the Second Annual Los Angeles County Day at the Los Angeles County Fair at the Fairplex in Pomona. The "A-Team" dancers signed autographs and took part in the parade.

"It was great to hear and see the excitement of the Avenger fans during the parade." Katie said. "The Los Angeles County Fair has something for everyone."

The L.A. County Expo Area featured 30 County departments, eight professional sports team booths, representatives of 23 countries along with County officials and employees for the day's festivities.

Among the sports guests in attendance were the Los Angeles Galaxy President and General Manager and recent inductee into the National Soccer Hall of Fame Alexi Lalas; Los Angeles Dodgers 1965 World Series hero "Sweet Lou" Johnson; Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy President and former California Angels Darrell Miller; Long Beach Ice Dogs Managing General Partner/Owner Steven Bash, players Alex Kim and Donald Johnson and mascot "Spike" and Chivas USA mascot "Chiva Fighter".

The highlight of the day was the parade - themed "Los Angeles County: A Great Team" that was lead by Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky and Don Knabe and District Attorney Steve Cooley joined by County department heads and their employees, members of sports teams, and approximately 150 representatives of 23 countries dressed in their native costumes.

The countries are: Afghanistan, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, People's Republic of China, Columbia, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Korea, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Sri Lanka, and Sweden.

On display during the entire run of the fair is the County's "We're Great Sports" exhibit located in Building #4. The exhibit was awarded a silver ribbon at the 2006 California State Fair in Sacramento. Fair guests will be able to test their sports trivia knowledge at the "Did You Know" wall as well as enter into an interactive room featuring a video presentation on the 100-plus year history of L.A. County sports. Children will be able to experience playing either Arena Football or National Hot Rod Association video games. The award-winning exhibit features a three-level display case of sports memorabilia that is available for a silent auction benefiting the County's charitable giving program.

There is plenty of time for county residents to experience the "We're Great Sports" exhibit and the entire L.A. County Fair, which runs from Sept. 8 - Oct. 1 and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
