Austin Bold FC News Release

Austin, TX - Austin Bold FC and OKC Energy FC finished Sunday night 1-1 at Taft Stadium to bring The Bold's five-match road trip to an end. Billy Forbes put Austin in the lead in the first half after plowing through the OKC backline. Jamie Chavez scored Energy's lone goal of August before halftime to bring the match level. The home side would be reduced to ten men in the second half after Rafael Garcia was shown a second yellow. The Bold looked to have found a match-winner off another Forbes goal, but it was ruled offside. Austin struggled to break down a tough OKC defense, and both sides shared the night's spoils.

Forbes continued his fantastic run of form by scoring his fourth goal in three matches in the 14'. Jorge Troncoso found Forbes at the top of the box, who did well to control a difficult ball off his chest to smash home a left-footed shot past Energy goalkeeper C.J. Cochran.

Energy found an equalizer through Chavez in the 41' to end their month-long goal drought. OKC fullback Zachary Ellis-Hayden fired a hard cross to the back post for Chavez to nod in from a close distance. The two sides finished the first half level.

OKC's night got tougher when Garcia was shown a second yellow in the 50' to reduce the team to ten men.

The Bold controlled much of the chances after that but struggled to find a breakthrough. Forbes looked to have bagged a game-winner in the 73' from a Xavi Baez corner, but the assistant referee called it offside. The two Group D opponents would leave Taft Stadium with a point apiece.

Post Match Quotes:

Billy Forbes on his amazing run of form, scoring four goals in three games."

"For me as a player, it just feels good to get a chance to play forward. It really comes down to hard work. I've been getting lucky being at the right spot at the right time and the ball has been going into the back of the net for me. I'm really happy about that."

Ryan Thompson on filling in for Bold Head Coach Marcelo Serrano for today's match.

"It hurt my heart to not have him here because I know how invested Marcelo [Serrano] is in this team. The fact that he couldn't be here came as a surprise to everyone but we all understand health is the most important thing. I was happy to step in and help when he couldn't be here. Thank God that I had the initiative to take the course [U.S. Soccer Coaching A License] and thank God I had the opportunity to learn under Marcelo and the staff here at Austin Bold. Jumping in this moment on the road was a big one and I was happy with the team's performance and how they responded to me. The players were very supportive and responded well to me. I'm happy I was able to represent myself, the club, and Marcelo. He's taught me a lot."
