Austin Bold FC News Release
Austin, TX - Austin Bold FC and FC Tulsa ended their first match of a quick double header 1-1 at Bold Stadium. The result keeps the two clubs level on points for the final playoff spot in Group D, with Austin having a slight edge due to goals scored. The visitors got on the scoreboard first with a Dario Suarez goal, which was enough for Tulsa to enter halftime on top. Austin created plenty of dangerous chances and finally found an equalizer late in the match through Beto Avila to end the night at 1-1. There won't be much time for rest as both clubs play one another again on Tuesday.
The early minutes were skittish, with both sides struggling to create dangerous scoring chances. Suarez broke the deadlock in the 30' with an outside the box strike. The Tulsa midfielder received the ball from Ariel Marinez and hit a right-footed strike to the top left corner that goalkeeper Diego Restrepo couldn't parry away.
Marcelo Serrano's men came out aggressive after going down with chances from Billy Forbes and Josue Soto, but couldn't get anything by Tulsa goalkeeper Sean Lewis. Austin native Avila finally found an equalizer for The Bold in the 74'. A Soto cross evaded the defense and landed to Avila at the back post, who made no mistake in burying a right-foot shot passed Lewis.
A heroic save from Restrepo came in stoppage time to secure a point for The Bold when he palmed away a close-range effort from Mfon Udoh right before the final whistle. Tonight's results set the stage for an exciting match on Tuesday.
Beto Avila on scoring his first goal for The Bold.
"I'm really happy about scoring my first goal and even happier to help my team to get a point."
