PEARL, Miss. - Bryan Augenstein, who left the BayBears in the middle of a May 9 start to answer a call to the major leagues, returned on Monday night at Trustmark Park and rattled off a seamless three scoreless innings while the BayBears knocked off the Mississippi Braves 4-1.

Augenstein faced the minimum nine hitters while using just 26 pitches to get through his scheduled three frames. He allowed a lead-off infield single to Travis Jones in the third but worked around with that with a double play ball.

Augenstein left with the lead as the BayBears (59-62, 22-29) tossed up a pair in the second against Tim Gustafson (1-3). Cyle Hankerd smacked a double to right-center while Bryan Byrne smashed a two-bagger off the wall in front of the BayBears' bullpen in right-center field to bring Hankerd home. Byrne scored himself as Matt Tupman drilled a one-out single to make it 2-0.

Tupman and Byrne were involved in the BayBears' third tally in the fourth inning as Byrne singled to lead off and then moved to second on a knock by Pete Clifford. Yunesky Sanchez walked to load the bags while Tupman bounced into a 4-6-3 twin killing to knock in Byrne.

Evan Frey started the fifth with a base hit and stole second, putting some pressure on Gustafson who then chucked a pick-off attempt into center field with nobody covering second. Frey scored on a sac fly by Mark Hallberg to give the BayBears a four-run cushion.

Josh Ellis (4-2) kept the Braves (55-64, 24-25) quiet during his three scoreless innings in place of Augenstein. Daniel Stange uncorked a lead-off homer in the eighth to Eric Campbell, putting Mississippi on the board. Stange was chased after a two-out hit by Greg Creek as Leyson Septimo (S, 3) entered for the four-out save.

It didn't look easy as Septimo walked Matt Young and Brandon Hicks to load the bases for Braves' top prospect Jason Heyward. It wasn't Heyward's night as Septimo blazed a 3-2 fastball by him to end the threat before hanging a goose egg in the ninth.
