Augusta RiverHawks News Release
Augusta RiverHawks' Captain Matt Auffrey scored with 1:52 remaining in overtime to give the RiverHawks a 4-3 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz Tuesday night at the James Brown Arena. Defenseman Luke Lucyk made a beautiful deke to create the opportunity and Auffrey found the loose rebound in the FireAntz' goal crease and fired it into the back of the net
The win is the RiverHawks' seventh in a row and moves Augusta into a tie for second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League, at least temporarily. The second-place Pensacola Ice Pilots were also in action Tuesday night and their game was not decided at the end of the RiverHawks' game.
The FireAntz opened the scoring in the first period as Anthony Perdicaro converted an opportunity on the power play, generated by Chris Leveille and Trevor Karasiewicz.
The RiverHawks were able to reply just 2:27 later when Travis Dunstall scored his seventh goal in just eight games with the RiverHawks. He hammered home a rebound off of a shot from Branden Kosolofsky.
Later in the period the RiverHawks took the lead while short-handed. Curtis Megginson flipped a clearing attempt into the neutral zone which was tracked down by Neil Graham. Graham picked up the bouncing puck and sped away on a breakaway, firing a snap shot past the blocker of FireAntz' goaltender Mike Spillane.
The game opened up in the third period, as the FireAntz were able to tie the game when Jeffery Burrows found a loose puck at the side of the net that he was able to slide by RiverHawks' goaltender Adam Avramenko.
The RiverHawks regained the lead when Joe Tolles scored his first goal of the season in just his second game with the RiverHawks. However, the FireAntz were handed a power play with just over two minutes remaining in the game and made good on it, when Anthony Perdicaro banked a pass off of the shin pads of Alexandre Lacombe and in to send the game into overtime.
The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Friday, February 11th as they once again face the Fayetteville FireAntz. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
