Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Batavia, NY - A lack of hitting proved to be the difference for the Muckdogs on Wednesday night, as they dropped a 2-0 contest to the Auburn Doubledays. In a game that had only eight total hits, it would take only one swing to decide the outcome. In the top of the fourth inning, Doubleday first baseman Vito Chiaravalotti blasted a two run shot over the left-centerfield fence at Dwyer Stadium.
Though he allowed Chiaravalotti's home run, Muckdogs starter Julio De La Cruz was solid in taking the loss. De La Cruz (1-5) went five innings and surrendered two hits, the only blemish being Chiaravalotti's blast in the fourth.
Tom Mastny went five innings for Auburn to pick up the win, giving up only two hits. Doubledays closer Bubbie Buzzachero worked a perfect ninth inning to pick up his twelfth save of the year.
At the plate for Batavia, Javon Moran, Michael Bourn, Jack Headley, and Esteban De Los Santos all had singles. The Muckdogs have not won a game at home since July 17th.
The 'Dogs take to the road on Thursday to face the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The game can be heard live on 89.1 The Point starting at 6:50pm with Matt Ridley.
