Atlanta Xplosion News Release

The Atlanta Xplosion moved to a perfect 2-0 at home this season and 3-1 overall with a TERMINATING sweep of the season's series with Tampa Bay to the tune of 28-14 last Saturday evening. In weather conditions that varied from fair to downright horrendous, approximately 400 faithful Xplosion fans enjoyed a dominating performance at Lakewood Stadium.

Even in the midst of a torrential downpour, Atlanta's offense maintained possession of the ball for a commanding 40+ minutes of the contest. The ground attack of Charmaine Chin (21 carries, 176yds, 2TDs) and D'Lon "Diesel" Herbert (11 carries, 94yds, 2TDs) paved the way for the ball-control strategy. The Tampa defense was worn down by 3 drives of over 8 minutes in length. The Atlanta offensive line lowered the BOOM!! at the point of attack all evening long- allowing The Bomb squad's skills players to do what they do best- XPLODE into the open field.

Not to be outdone, the "Darkside" Defense slammed the door shut on any chances of Tampa getting back into the ballgame by forcing 6 turnovers on the evening. Linebackers Kiwanii Gibson and Carlissa Lawson delivered bone-rattling smacks to any opposing player within range, while defensive backs Stephanie "Lil Bit" Thomas and Mary Kay "Primetime" Bateman registered key stops to orange and white efforts all night long. In the trenches, the T-N-T defensive line of Dee "Hawaii" Ember, Charissa "Scar" Carstarphen and Kimba "Gemini" Reams wreaked havoc on Tampa's backfield contributing to a whopping 4 fumbles forced, 3 quarterback hurries, and 2 QB sacks registered. Linebacker Ereka Woods picked off an errant Tampa pass deep in Terminator territory late in the game, and the sure-handed DB Bateman logged her 4th pick of the young season to place a finishing stamp on the contest.

"Our defense forced 1 & 2 (plays)-and-outs all game long giving our 'O' (offense) the opportunity to really grind it out", stated Head Coach M.G. Dawson. "Believe it or not, this was a big statement game for us. With this win, we've got some serious momentum heading back out onto the road for the next two weeks."

The Xplosion and their loyal caravan of fans will next travel to Nashville, TN to face the WFL's Tennessee Heat on May 24th.
