Atlanta Dream News Release

ATLANTA, May 6, 2015 - The Atlanta Dream announced today that it has re-signed guard Matee Ajavon. In addition, the team has signed center Martha Alwal to a training camp contract. Per team policy, contract terms were not disclosed.

Ajavon spent her first season in Atlanta last year, and played in 24 games during an injury-plagued season, averaging 2.2 points and 0.8 rebounds per game. After missing just one game during her first six seasons in the league, Ajavon entered the season battling a neck injury, before suffering a right calf injury early in the year that knocked her out of action. She began rounding back into form at the end of the regular season, averaging 4.8 points and 1.8 assists on 44.4 percent field goal shooting over the Dream's final six games.

A seven-year veteran of the WNBA, Ajavon owns career averages of 8.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Her best season came in 2011 with Washington, when she averaged 14.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per contest. She recently completed a season playing for Maranhão Basquete in Brazil, averaging 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

Alwal is a three-time All-SEC pick who was also named to the SEC All-Defensive Team the final three years of her career, including SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. She is the first player to ever lead the SEC in blocks four straight years, and one of just three players in SEC history to record career totals of 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 300 blocks. She finished her career as the SEC's active leader in blocks, rebounds and double-doubles (35).

The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream opens its eighth season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) on June 5 at New York, with the home opener slated for Sunday, June 7 at 3 p.m. ET vs. the Connecticut Sun. The Dream has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past six seasons, winning conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010. Season tickets for the 2015 season can be purchased by calling (877) 977-7729 or visiting www.AtlantaDream.net.
