Astros shutout Mets 12-0

Kingsport, TN - The Greeneville Astros visited Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport on Sunday night and shutout the Mets in a dominant 12-0 game. With the win and a loss by the Elizabethton Twins on Sunday, the Astros are now in sole possession of first place in the Appalachian League West Division at 9-4.

Greeneville started the game with two hitless innings before breaking it open in the third. With one out, the Astros got four consecutive hits including RBI singles from D'Andre Toney and Jean Batista. Ernesto Genoves, later in the inning, also doubled in two more runs to put the Astros up 4-0.

That's where the score remained until the seventh inning when Toney struck again, with the bases loaded, on a line drive double to score two. Then, Jose Monzon scored on a wild pitch from the Mets. That put the score at 7-0 through seven innings.

The Astros got another 2-run double in the eighth inning from Ariel Ovando, who now has a league-leading six doubles on the season. To conclude the scoring in the eighth, Greeneville's Jimmy Howick hit a three-run shot for his first career homerun.

On the night, Greeneville scored 12 runs on 12 hits by 10 different batters. The Astros are now 3-1 against Kingsport this season.

Greeneville's starting pitcher Francis Ramirez (2-0) earned the win, giving up no runs on two hits over six innings with seven strikeouts.
