Astros lose rubber match to Mets, 1-0

Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros (15-18), after splitting two games at Kingsport, hosted the Mets (16-16) in the rubber match at Pioneer Park on Thursday night. In the sixth inning, the Mets scored the lone run of the game on a solo homer from Ivan Wilson to give them a 1-0 victory to claim the split series.
Despite having just two hits in the game, the Astros nearly tied it up in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings for the second straight night. It all began with a leadoff walk from Kristian Trompiz. After a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch, Trompiz stood 90 feet away from tying the game.
When Antonio Nunez put the ball in play, Trompiz was already headed home. However, Mets' shortstop Luis Guillorme threw Trompiz out at the plate on the fielder's choice. That ended the Astros' best chance to even the score, but the game officially ended when the next batter went down with a strikeout.
David Roseboom, who struck out the only batter he faced, picked up the save. Meanwhile, Mets' starting pitcher Martires Arias (W, 3-0) gave up just two hits over seven innings with five strikeouts as he earned the win.
The Astros will begin a new split series with the Bristol Pirates (10-21) on Friday night at Pioneer Park. First pitch is set for 7:00pm.
