Astros lose 5-4 in Mets walk-off

Kingsport, TN "" The Greeneville Astros lost in walk-off fashion to the Kingsport Mets 5-4 in the second of the two teams' three-game series on Monday night.

Greeneville catapulted to a two-run lead in the top of the first inning. Shortstop Osvaldo Duarte led off the game with a walk, stole second, and reached third on a groundout but was ousted on a fielder's choice at home. With two outs, Connor Goedert lined his fifth double of the season to left field to score Aaron Mizell and the Astros first run.

Still with two outs, Mets starter Connor Buchmann walked Greeneville's Justin Garcia, Brauly Mejia and Hector Roa to score Goedert to put the Astros up 2-0.

The Astros struck again with one run in the fourth and another in the fifth. In the fourth, Roa blasted a solo homerun out of left field. The base-rounder was his first since returning to Greeneville.

The Greeneville fifth began with a Myles Straw single to centerfield, which the speedy outfielder followed by stealing second base with Mizell batting. Mizell lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield moving Straw to third. Straw then came in to score during a groundout to short by Goedert to give the Astros a 4-0 advantage.

The gap would be closed by the Mets in the home half of the sixth when they posted three runs. Kingsport's Raphael Ramirez singled to left, then swiped second base. Ramirez came in to score on a single by Patrick Mazeika, which was followed with a single by Arnoldo Berrios and another by Kevin Kaczmarski to push Mazeika in. Berrios would score the third and final run of the inning on a wild pitch to put the score at 4-3 in favor of the Astros.

The Mets would even the score in the eighth with a solo homerun hit off the right field foul pole by Dash Winningham, giving him a homer in each of his first two games against Greeneville this season.

The Astros held until the bottom of the ninth when the Mets' Hengelbert Rojas reached second base on an error, then was lifted for pinch runner Jose Figuera. Figuera would move over to third on a groundout by Luis Ortega and score the game-winner on a Ramirez grounder-turned-error to give Kingsport the 5-4 decision.

Greeneville left-hander Yhoan Acosta produced another superb start as he threw four full innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three batters. He was followed with a one-hit fifth inning thrown by righty Andrew Thome, making his Greeneville debut. Jacob Dorris also threw one and one-third allowing no hits and picking up one strikeout.

Samil De Los Santos took the loss despite not surrendering a hit, walk, or earned run in his two-thirds of the ninth inning, evening his 2015 record at 1-1 for the Astros while maintaining his 0.00 ERA. Right-hander Witt Haggard recorded the win for the Mets after pitching in the top of the ninth inning.

The Astros were led offensively by Roa who went two-for-three with a homerun, double, a run scored and two RBI. Goedert and Straw, who each went one-for-four with a run scored, followed Roa at the plate. Goedert was also credited with two RBI and his lone hit being a double. Arturo Michelena also posted a one-for-four night and Mizell crossed the plate once with a run scored.

The Astros return to Kingsport to conclude the series on Tuesday and will return home for a three-game affair with the Pulaski Yankees on Sat., July 11 after a road series against the Johnson City Cardinals.
