Kingsport, TN - The Greeneville Astros are heading to the Appalachian League Championship for the second time in three years after a 3-1 victory over the Kingsport Mets on Saturday night. Following a loss in game one, the Astros rallied to take games two and three to win the West Division playoff series in Kingsport. Greeneville will take on the East Division champion Princeton Rays on Sunday, September 6th at Pioneer Park in game one of the championship series.

Left-handed pitcher Yhoan Acosta carried the team on Saturday night after a brilliant start on the mound. The Astros' season leader in innings pitched and strikeouts tossed a career-high seven scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out seven batters.

The Astros scored all three of their runs in the top of the sixth inning. Myles Straw was the first man to reach base after being hit with a wild pitch. Daz Cameron came up next and drew a walk to put runners on first and second. With two outs, Astros MVP Connor Goedert sent a bomb to deep left-center field that smacked off the top of the wall and scored the speedsters Straw and Cameron. Goedert pulled up at second with two RBI and his first double of the postseason, after having tied the team all-time record with 20 doubles during the regular season. Randy Cesar then sent a flare single to right field which scored Goedert from second and gave the Astros their third run of the inning.

Joselo Pinales entered to relieve Acosta in the bottom of the eighth inning and picked up the hold after pitching for one full. The Mets scored their only run of the game on an Ivan Wilson RBI groundout which scored Milton Ramos, who had reached on a triple.

The Astros brought in the lefty Luis Ramirez in the bottom of the ninth inning to close the door on the Mets. Ramirez received the save after forcing a couple of groundouts and a pop up to end the game and ensure the Astros' victory.

The Greeneville Astros will look to win their second Appalachian League Championship as they take on the Princeton Rays in a three-game series beginning on Sunday night. Game two, and the potential game three, will take place in Princeton on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Tickets for game one of the championship series will available at the Pioneer Park ticket office on Sunday. First pitch will be at 7:00 PM. Gates will open at 6:00 PM. The Astros are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Houston Astros. For more information, visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
