Astros Fall in Championship Series Opener, 12-2

Greeneville, TN- The Greeneville Astros (2-2) lost 12-2 to the Princeton Rays (3-1) in the opening game of the Appalachian League Championship Series at Pioneer Park on Sunday night.

The Rays offense was potent throughout the matchup scoring all 12 runs in the first six innings. Princeton third baseman Brett Sullivan paced the Ray's bats with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate including a run scored and three RBI. Each batter in the Princeton lineup managed at least one hit in the 20-hit night by the Rays.

Greeneville countered with three multiple-hit batters accounting for all but one of the club's seven hits. Third baseman Randy Cesar led the Astros with 2-for-3 night at the plate featuring a double and run scored as right fielder Kyle Tucker finished the night 2-for-4 with a run. Catcher Christian Correa went 2-for-3 and drew a walk.

Astros right-hander Cristhopher Santamaria emerged from the bullpen to pitch three shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out two batters. Princeton's Spencer Moran earned the win for the Rays tossing five and two-third innings and allowing two runs on six hits and striking out five.

The series travels to Princeton, WV tomorrow night with a 7 PM scheduled first pitch for the second game and a third game, if necessary. The Astros will look to sweep the last two games of the series and earn the league championship in the same fashion as the advanced through the playoff series against Kingsport.
