Greeneville Astros News Release

Danville, VA - The Greeneville Astros gave up five runs in the third inning as the Danville Braves took a 7-1 win on Friday night in game two of their series. With the Johnson City Cardinals' 6-5 victory over the Burlington Royals, the Astros are back to 1.5 games behind the Cardinals in their quest for the playoffs.

The game started off nicely for the Astros as they took the initial lead in the first inning. After D'Andre Toney led off the game with a walk, Carlos Correa moved him all the way over to third on a ground ball single to right field. Then, although Brian Blasik grounded into a double play, it gave Toney the opportunity to come home and give the Astros a 1-0 lead. However, from that point on, Terrell Joyce was the only Greeneville batter to pick up a hit as he went three-for-three on the night.

In the third inning, the Braves took control of the game. Following an Edison Sanchez walk with one out, Felix Marte hit a RBI-triple and was immediately brought home on a Jose Peraza RBI-single. The Astros got the next batter to ground into a force out, but Josh Elander followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Then, Aris Alcantara hit a three-run homer and the Braves were suddenly up 5-1 by the end of the inning.

Their next time up, Danville kept their momentum going when Sanchez tripled with one out in the fourth inning. Later, with two outs, Peraza hit a RBI-single and Levi Hyams connected on a RBI-double consecutively to push the Braves lead to 7-1 and what eventually became the final outcome.

Danville' starter Ernesto Silva (W, 5-1) gave up one run on three hits and three walks over seven innings as he earned the win. Jeremy Fitzgerald entered in the eighth inning and finished the game by giving up just one hit and one walk over the final two innings.

The Astros will face the Braves in the rubber match on Saturday at 7:00pm in Danville. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
