Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros fell to the Johnson City Cardinals Tuesday night by a score of 3-1. The defeat evens the Astros' record at 27-27 on the season. Alejandro Solarte received the loss for Greeneville while Josh Wirsu picked up the win for the Cardinals.
The first four innings of the ballgame were a pitching duel between starters Edgardo Sandoval for the Astros and Josh Wirsu for the Cardinals. Through his five innings pitched, Sandoval did not give up a run while allowing just two hits and striking out three. Sandoval has looked sharp in his two appearances this season for Greeneville, racking up seven strikeouts and allowing just one run.
The Astros broke through offensively in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead. With one out, Justin Garcia smacked a fly ball to left field for his eighth double of the season. Ford Stainback then knocked him in with a single to pick up his fifteenth RBI.
However, the next two innings would feature exclusively Johnson City offense as they scored three runs on two solo home runs by Edmundo Sosa and a Hunter Newman RBI double to take a 3-1 lead.
The Cardinals' pitching kept the Astros bats quiet for the rest of the game and Greeneville fell by a score of 3-1.
The Astros will next take on the Danville Braves in a three game series in Danville starting on Thursday, August 20th. They will return home to Pioneer Park on Sunday, August 23rd to take on the Elizabethton Twins at 6:00 PM.
