Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros faced the Bristol Sox for the first time this season on Saturday and cruised to a 14-2 victory at Pioneer Park. From start to finish, the Astros were in control of the game.
Greeneville jumped to an early lead with three runs in the first inning. D'Andre Toney, after a base hit and stolen base, scored on an error by Bristol. Then, Ariel Ovando knocked in two runs with a line drive to right field.
After the Sox got a run in the top of the fourth inning on a passed ball by Greeneville, the Astros made it up when D'Andre Toney was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. At the end of four, Greeneville held a 4-1 lead, but the best was yet to come for the Astros.
Greeneville put the game well out of reach with an eight-run fifth inning, the most runs the Astros have scored in a single inning since they scored nine against the Burlington Indians on August 10, 2005.
After Terrell Joyce got on with a single and Ernesto Genoves reached on a fielding error, Jean Batista hit a triple to bring them both home. Michael Martinez followed with a RBI single. Then, two batters later D'Andre Toney did the same. After a pitching change, a Marc Wik ground out allowed Josh Magee to score. Brian Blasik then hit another RBI single for the Astros. Finally, Terrell Joyce crushed a two-run homer, the first of his professional career. At the end of the inning, the Astros held a 12-1 advantage.
The Astros added their final two runs on the night in the seventh inning. With D'Andre Toney batting, Josh Magee scored on a passed ball and throwing error from Bristol following a leadoff double. Then, Toney proceeded to hit a solo homer to put the Astros up 14-1.
Bristol added one meaningless run in the ninth on a wild pitch from the Astros, but Greeneville still finished the game with a 14-2 win to match their largest margin of victory this season.
Francis Ramirez (3-0) earned the win for the Astros by giving up one unearned run on two hits over five innings and also collected six strikeouts.
The Astros play the Bristol White Sox in game two of the series at Pioneer Park on Sunday at 6:00pm. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
