
Astros' bullpen shines to beat league-best Braves

Greeneville, TN- The Greeneville Astros hosted the Danville Braves in the first game of a three-game series Wednesday night at Pioneer Park. Coming into the game, the Braves were undefeated away from home with a 3-0 road record. They also held the best record in the Appalachian League with a 7-2 mark, but the Astros were able to outlast them to claim a 5-2 victory.
Danville was able to jump on the board early when they plated one in the top of the first inning. It came via a two-out single by catcher Josh Elander that drove in Carlos Franco. The score at the end of the inning was 1-0 in favor of Danville.
After a scoreless second from both teams, the Astros were able to plate four in the bottom of the third that would put them ahead for good. Astros first baseman Michael Martinez started the inning off with a leadoff solo home run to left field, his first long ball of the season. Greeneville was then able to load the bases by capitalizing on a hit batsman, an infield single and a throwing error by Braves' third baseman Carlos Franco to load the bases with no outs in the inning. Then, Astros' second baseman Jean Batista drove in two with a single to center field, and Brian Blasik capped off the scoring in the inning by grounding into a double play that allowed D'Andre Toney to score from third. Through three innings the Astros were ahead 4-1.
The Danville Braves were able to get on the board again in the fourth when center fielder Blake Brown hit a solo home run to take the score to 4-2 in favor of Greeneville. This would, however, prove to be the final run of the night for Danville as the Greeneville bullpen shined and was able to shut down the Braves' offense.
Greeneville added one more score in the bottom of the seventh when Jimmy Howick drove in Michael Martinez on a single to left field to cap off the scoring for the game.
The Astros' Mitchell Lambson would go on the earn the win on the night, his first of the season, as he pitched three innings, allowing only one hit, along with recording three strikeouts and no walks. Mike Hauschild earned his second save of the season as he allowed only one hit and one walk while recording three strikeouts.
