Assistant Coach Brett Strot moving on

March 30, 2006 - SPHL (SPHL)
Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

The Jacksonville Barracudas announce that after three seasons of serving as the team's Assistant Coach, Brett Strot has decided to step down from that position. Strot, who had also come out of retirement as a player to play in 20 games this past season with the Barracudas, will be taking on a position with Barracudas' sponsor Velocity Sports Performance.

"I would like to thank Steve and Janet Croskrey, the ownership group, the entire Barracudas organization, and especially Ron Duguay for giving me the opportunity to be part of something that has been my passion my entire life", Strot said. "I am looking forward to continuing my work in nurturing and developing young athletes' character and athleticism through this new opportunity with Velocity Sports Performance."

"We were lucky to have an individual of Brett's character and qualifications training our players for the last three seasons", Barracudas Business Manager Gilles Richard said. "He is a great friend to hockey in Jacksonville, and we are happy to see that Brett will continue to work with elite athletes. We wish him and his family the best of luck."

Strot's playing career spanned 11 seasons, in which he scored 213 goals and 292 assists for 505 points. His best season as a professional came in the 1993-1994 season with the Flint Generals where he put up 107 points in just 53 games. Prior to becoming a pro, Strot had a solid four-year campaign with NCAA hockey powerhouse University of Minnesota.

Strot began his coaching career with the Barracudas in 2003-2004 in the World Hockey Association 2. That season Strot and Head Coach Ron Duguay led the Barracudas to the only WHA2 Championship, the only hockey championship a team from Jacksonville has ever won. In 2004-2005 the team moved into the Southern Professional Hockey League, where the Duguay and Strot-led Barracudas finished the regular season in second place, but bowed out of the playoffs in the second round.

Season tickets and corporate sponsorships for the 2006-2007 season are now available. For more information contact the Barracudas office at 904-367-1423, or visit the team's website at www.jaxcudas.com.
