Chicago Machine News Release

McCOOK, Ill. - Forty lacrosse players will take their best shot at earning a spot on the Chicago Machine's 2008 training camp roster when they take the field at MAX McCook Athletic & Exposition Sunday afternoon. The Machine, which will reserve five of their 35 allotted training camp roster slots for open tryout participants, expect to find quality talent among those 40 athletes.

"Last season, at our first open tryout, we were pleasantly surprised by the ability of the participants," said John Meister, Chicago's general manager and president. "Several of the players we sent to training camp made the roster and eventually appeared in games. We're hoping to see the same quality of player at this year's tryout."

Five players who tried out in 1997 are listed on the current Machine roster. Midfielder Matt Karweck led all tryout products, recording nine points (6 goals, 3 assists) in six games. Attackman Bryan Poole and goalie Chris Bluse, who also participated in last year's open tryout, made their professional debuts with the Machine last season.

This year's list of tryout registrants includes players with a wide variety of lacrosse backgrounds, ranging from high school participation to top NCAA Division I experience.

"You would certainly have to consider most of these guys long shots to make our final roster," said Meister, "but if you look at the success that some of the tryout participants from last season had, this year's group certainly has reason to believe they can make it."
