August 7, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Question from Charlotte from Charlotte: "I've noticed that you have moved some teams from playing in 2006 to 2007? Why?"

Answer: Charlotte from Charlotte. Nice having a city named after you. Very perceptive question. We have moved several cities from the 2006 roster of teams to the 2007 roster. The ABA established new Standards and Requirements for play this season which included a "timeline" for certain things that needed to be done in order to play. It is Brad Hester's job as Vice President of Team Operations to oversee the progress of the ABA teams and to make sure that they are 100% ready to play. If a team feels that it cannot do everything required to have a very successful season, the decision is made to defer until the following season (2007). This is the case of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Salt Lake City, Omaha, Birmingham and Toronto to name a few. Our goal this season is to play 100% of the games on the schedule. If a teams feels, for any reason, that it cannot do that, it is better to give some extra time to put everything in order. The ownerships of the abovementioned teams are excellent. Good businesspeople with an understanding of what it takes to be successful and we are looking forward to having them back next season. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
