Ask the CEO
June 21, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Question from JP: "How would you like the idea of a Mark Cuban or a similar type of owner owning an ABA team?"
Answer: JP. Mark Cuban is the fourth best thing to happen to the NBA since Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson (not necessarily in that order). He is young, bright, enthusiastic, committed, passionate, and of course well capitalized - all great things. He is very outspoken but underneath it all, he loves the NBA, his community and his team - and what he says and does is, in his opinion, always in the best interests of all. You know how I feel about these "fines" from previous Ask the CEO questions. The fact that he can afford $250,000 doesn't make it right (my opinion). The NBA should be paying him $250,000 for putting a little life and personality into its ownership group. Watching him sitting in the stands as an average fan in the final was refreshing. He could have been in a luxury suite; he chose to be with his fans. From what I've heard, his contributions to the city of Dallas and youth are second to none. Mark Cuban in the ABA? I'd give him a city for free. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
