May 1, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Question from Fernando W., Miami, FL: "I saw your statement about Arkansas today. Does that mean that the ABA might bring a team back to the Miami area? And this time, will you have a team that is fan-friendly and affordable for the fans?"

Answer: Fernando. That was quick. The ABA is very interested in having a team in Miami, Florida. It would fit very well with our expanding Florida division. If it does happen, and it might, we will play in a smaller arena closer to Miami and make sure that the games are affordable for families with children, senior citizens, military, etc. The goal of the ABA is to provide fan-friendly, exciting professional basketball and entertainment at affordable prices. We have great respect for the NBA and the Miami Heat. An ABA team with ticket prices from $5 to $15 would complement the Miami Heat well. Thus far, we do not have an ownership group ready to step in, but we are working on it. As you know, Fernando, the ABA ownership is the most diversified in the sports world. Perhaps there's a Latin group that might like to own a team. We want to be in Miami. If you have a question, please email joenewman@abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
