Ask the CEO
Published on April 8, 2006 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Question from CW, California. "I want to get in medical school. I am wondering how much the pay would be if I was to get on an ABA team. I am good enough to play on the national team. Either I play in the ABA or I go to a Division I school and get a full scholarship."
Answer: CW. Thank you for your email. If you were Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson, I would say the same thing to them. If you have an opportunity for a full scholarship to a Division I, II or III school, and if you have a desire for medical school or any business or profession, I would encourage you strongly to choose the education option. Pro basketball is fun. There is nothing better, however, than a good education. Let the ABA or other pro leagues wait. You have a great opportunity with your scholarship and obviously the intelligence to help you maximize the potential of the education. Don't choose basketball first. If you have a question, please email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
