Ask the CEO
October 6, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Question from Many: "Aren't you getting discouraged by being ignored by the NBA with your challenge of a benefit game for hurricane victims?" (Or similar questions).
Answer: Quite frankly, I am getting discouraged. By now, I assume the NBA is hoping that we would drop the subject (we know they know about the offer of a benefit game).
But then I think about the tremendous on-going need for money for victim relief - and I say, let's keep asking because it is not too late to accept. And I really believe the game would generate interest and good revenues for the hurricane relief funds. I might add that we get a lot of interest from hurricane victims themselves who are eager for the game to happen. While typing this answer, a banner just came up: Hope. Victims of Hurricane Katrina Need Your Help Now. Donate Now. Or call to donate at 1 800 HELP NOW. American Red Cross. If nothing else, our keeping awareness front and center helps. And as said before, the ABA and its teams will continue to help with efforts throughout the season. Thanks for caring so much so many. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
