Question from Murray W, Charleston SC: "If the NBA doesn't accept (Katrina Hurricane game), have you thought about a pre-season All Star Game between ABA players?

Answer: Murray. Thanks for the question. We have had lots of questions relating to alternative games. And we've talked about it. We don't think it would draw as much as an NBA/ABA exhibition game so that the hurricane victims would not receive as much money and it would probably not draw as much national attention to the game and cause. We are having a League Owners meeting on Friday and will discuss some options. Surely the NBA can pick one or two players from rosters that are located near Pittsburgh and send them over for a game. We'll even pay for their flights and hotel. We think we can generate a million dollars for the evening for hurricane victims. Looking at a map, the NBA could put together players from the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets. And if they'd send a player from the Miami Heat, we'd even have Tim Hardaway suit up. Someone should send an email to David Stern. We're serious. But time is running short. Thanks to all of you who have sent in emails. If you have a question, please email joenewman@abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
