
Asheville Acquires Dean Oliver

GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 25, 2003) - The Asheville Altitude of the National Basketball Development League has acquired point guard Dean Oliver, according to an announcement by NBDL Executive Director Karl Hicks and Altitude Head Coach Joey Meyer.
Oliver is expected to be in uniform tonight when Asheville (18-22) plays host to Roanoke (19-18) at the Asheville Civic Center. Tip off is set for 7:15 p.m. ET.
Oliver played most recently with the Greenville Groove of the NBDL. Greenville released Oliver on Feb. 24 after he played in five games. Since being acquired on Feb. 3 by the Grove, Oliver had averaged 10.4 minutes, 3.0 points and 1.4 assists.
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound point guard, Oliver played collegiately at Iowa ('01). He played in 35 games over parts of two seasons in the NBA before being released by the Golden State Warriors in December 2002. Oliver averaged 1.8 points and 1.3 assists per game with Golden State.
Oliver is one of only three players in the history of the Big Ten Conference to collect over 1,500 points, 500 assists and 200 steals. As a senior at Iowa, he averaged 14.9 points, 4.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game.
