Danbury, CT - Six different goal scorers and timely power play markers helped the New York Aviators defeat the Danbury Whalers 6-2 on Sunday night in Federal Hockey League action.
With the win, the A's extending the league best winning streak to 17 straight games.
The first period started out much like it did last night for the A's, as Mike Thomson netted his third goal is three games just 2:28 in from Nick Kuqali. For Thomson, that is his 18th marker of the season to give him eight points in his last five games. The Whalers though, came back to tie the contest on Devin Guy's 6th tally at the 17:01 mark on the power play.
Danbury outshot New York in the opening frame, 14-12, and had five chance on the man advantage, however could only muster up that lone unassisted goal from Guy.
New York would reclaim the lead at the 15:44 mark of the second, as Casey Mignone cashed in the loose puck on the power play for his 17th tally of the season. Aviators' defenseman KC Timmons slid the puck on net, and Mignone was there on the left post to put home the rebound for his fourth goal in five games.
The back-and-forth game continued shortly after the A's second goal. Steve McClellan would then find the back of the net 2:56 later on another power play marker to tie the contest at 2 on his 6th goal of the year.
Four consecutive goals in the final period was just what New York needed to break the tie, and skate to their 28th season victory. In total, 11 different players tallied a point or more for the A's.
Kevin Druce nabs win number 22 on the season after stopping 25 shots. Nick Niedert gets the loss for the Whalers, despite making 35 saves.
The Aviators move to 28-12-2, as the Whalers drop 20-17-5.
