A's Fall in OT to Whalers, 3-2; Series at 2-1

(Danbury, CT)- The Aviators looked to gain a game-lead on the Whalers in the FHL's Southern Division Playoffs Friday night in Danbury. However, after a closely contested match, the A's were unable to come away with the victory. Danbury was given the win in overtime, 3-2.

New York struck first with a powerplay goal from Jesse Felten (Michael Thomson, Matt Puntureri) at 4:37. This would be the lone goal in the period, giving the Aviators the 1-0 lead heading into the middle frame.

At 5:53 in the second, Chris Seifert would get the equalizer for Danbury to knot the game at 1-1. Both netminding and defense proved strong for both teams, as no additional goals were scored in the period.

Warren Galloway (Casey Mignone, John Goffredo) would put the Aviators up by one at 9:32 in the final stanza. However, the Whalers were awarded a penalty shot and Alec Kirschner found the back of the net and got a shot past A's netminder Kevin Druce with only sixteen seconds remaining in regulation. With only a few seconds left on the clock, this goal would send the clubs into overtime.

Danbury's Chris Seifert was able to find his way through Druce at with thirteen minutes remaining in overtime handing the Whalers the 3-2 victory.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night at the Danbury Ice Arena for a decisive game four. Puck drop is set for 7:05PM and fans can keep up with the live action on LiveSportsVideo.com and Pointstreak.com.

If the Aviators win tomorrow night, game five will be held at Aviator Sports and Events Center on Sunday, March 13 at 3:05PM.
