A's Claim Series in Thrilling OT Matchup; Advance to FHL Finals

(Brooklyn, NY) After the Aviators forced a game five last night in Danbury with their 7-0 win over the Whalers, the teams headed back to Brooklyn for the final game of the FHL's Southern Division Playoff Series Sunday afternoon. The Aviators were hungry to secure their spot in the FHL Finals versus the Akwesasne Warriors. After a thrilling back-and-forth matchup for 60 minutes followed by overtime, the A's skated away with the 3-2 victory over the Whalers to advance to the FHL Finals.

Chris Holmes (Serse, Longo) got on the board first for the Aviators at 9:02 in the first period. Shortly after, Danbury's Chris Seifert added a goal for Danbury, knotting the match as the teams headed into the middle stanza.

New York's leading scorer, Matt Puntureri, would put the Aviators ahead by one again, but Matt Caranci of the Whalers did not waste time tying the contest. Before theend of the second, Seifert would add another goal for the Whalers to give them their first lead of the game heading into the final period. Score after two, 3-2 Whalers.

With only a few minutes remaining in regulation, New York's Nick Grove snuck one past Danbury netminder Peter Vetri to tie the game at three. This goal would send the teams into overtime.

At 3:56 into overtime, Puntureri proved to be the star of the night as he chipped in the game-winning goal for the Aviators.

Kevin Druce recorded 21 saves for the A's while Vetri turned away 29 shots.

With this win, the Aviators will advance to face off against the Akwesasne Warriors in the FHL Finals beginning on Friday, March 18 at Aviator Sports and Events Center. Tickets will be on sale tomorrow afternoon by calling 718 758 7580 or by logging on to www.newyorkaviators.com.
