Long Beach Armada News Release

CHICO, CA - The Armada put together a 12-hit performance in support of Kris Honel, who joined the team just two hours before first pitch, for a 4-1 win over the Chico Outlaws at Nettleton Stadium on Saturday night. Long Beach improved to 7-8 in the second half, 27-26 overall.

Honel (5-4) pitched six innings, giving up one run off three hits while striking out eight in his debut with the Fleet. Honel, who went 4-4 in 10 starts with Edmonton, came to Long Beach in Friday's trade that sent Jose Lima to the Capitals.

Justin Segal pitched two scoreless innings of relief, and Koichi Misawa earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth inning as the Armada pitching staff once against limited the Outlaws offense.

Long Beach struck first in the third inning. Daryl Jones singled and after a single by Josh Womack, Dan Luyben knocked his first hit as a member of the Armada to score Jones for a 1-0 lead.

The Outlaws responded in the bottom of the inning. Honel walked BJ Underkofler to lead of the inning, and after a single by Jonny Ash that pushed Underkofler to third, Dale Swinford drove him home to tie the game, 1-1.

Long Beach didn't waste too much time, answering in the fourth inning. Steve Moss singled to lead off the frame and came around to score on a ball hit by Matt Edgecombe. Edgecombe left the game with a sore hamstring.

The Armada added a run in the seventh when Josh Womack singled to score Jones. Jones went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Jones was one of five Armada hitters with a pair of hits.

Chico starter Evan White took the loss, pitching 6 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking one.

The Armada and Outlaws continue this three game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm from Nettleton Stadium in Chico.
