MESA, ARIZONA âThe Long Beach Armada's offense exploded for 18 runs and 21 hits against the Mesa Miners at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona.
For the fifth straight game, the visiting team got on the board in the first inning. The Armada scored four runs in the first inning tonight against starter Grant Williams (1-1) who got the loss. They continued to score at least one run every inning except for the fifth. Hitting stars for the Armada were Ryan Webb who went 3-for-7 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored and Jeff Larue who went 4-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. Jeremy Hernandez also added to the attack going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 4 runs scored. Every player in the lineup for Long Beach collected at least 1 hit. Only Bobby Castro was the lone player without a RBI.
The Miners suffered their worst defeat of the season, giving up 18 (14 earned) runs and 21 hits. Their defense also committed four errors. Position players Kevin Reinking (C), Michael Done (3B), and Adam Bonner (1B) all got to pitch at least one inning in relief. Cleatus Davidson went 3-for-5 and Matt Connoly hit a solo HR for the Miners.
Long Beach starter Adam Pettyjohn (1-1) gave up two runs on seven hits in eight innings of work while Mesa starter Grant Williams (1-1) gave up 11 runs (7 earned) on 10 hits in only 2.1 innings.
The final game of the three game series continues tomorrow night at HoHoKam Park at 6:35 p.m. Scheduled starters are Chris Marini (0-0) for Mesa and Mike Marchesano (1-0) for Long Beach. As always, if you can not make it to the ballpark, you can listen live via the internet at www.MesaMiners.com.
