Jacksonville Armada FC News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Community First Park will throw back to Jacksonville's storied soccer past at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, when the Jacksonville Armada FC host a tribute to their North American Soccer League predecessors, the Jacksonville Tea Men, during the club's next home match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

As part of a night of celebration in honor of the Tea Men, the Armada will don the Tea Men's distinctive red and tangerine uniforms as they take on the Rowdies. Former players, coaches and administrators, including Tea Men owner Ingo Krieg, will also be invited to take part in the celebration and will be honored on the pitch prior to kickoff.

Krieg will be invited to raise a Tea Men flag as part of the pre-match build-up and former players will be invited to take part in the coin toss. Video excerpts from Tea Men matches in the 1980's will also be shown on video boards and TV monitors throughout the match. To help commemorate the evening, Winn-Dixie is giving away Tea Men-inspired scarves to the first 2,000 fans to arrive at the game.

A popular fixture at the old Gator Bowl when they moved to the First Coast in 1980, the Tea Men provided many memorable nights of professional soccer for fans as part of the original North American Soccer League, and the Armada wanted to honor the club that sparked the beginning of soccer's growth in Northeast Florida. They were also Jacksonville's first full major league-level franchise in the city.

"We're looking forward to a very memorable night for every soccer fan in Northeast Florida," said Armada FC President Steve Livingstone. "We are really excited and thrilled to be honoring Jacksonville's original professional team by wearing their kits and involving them in our match festivities. The First Coast has a very rich soccer history, and the foundation soccer's success now can be attributed directly to the Tea Men and the influence they had in pioneering the start-up of youth soccer clubs, such as Clay County Soccer Club, in our area."

The night of nostalgia will also have a little Latin flair as the Armada will also be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with pre-match entertainment provided by Ritmo y Sabor from 5-7 p.m. at the Armada Matchday Experience that also includes family-friendly festivities such as interactive inflatables, games and tasty food and drinks.

Tickets to the match start at $12 and can be purchased now by calling 1.844.2.Armada or visiting armadafc.com.
