
Armada FC Partner with Winn-Dixie to Host Food Drive at July 31 Match

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 23, 2015) - The Jacksonville Armada FC are partnering with Winn-Dixie to give a swift kick to hunger by holding a food drive at its match at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31 against Minnesota United FC at Community First Park. All collections will be donated to the Feeding Northeast Florida food bank.
Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring an unopened, unexpired food item to either entrance at Community First Park. Suggested food items are canned meat, beans, rice, pasta and sauce, peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, canned fruit and vegetables and cereal.
In exchange for their donation, fans will receive a buy one, get one ticket voucher for the Armada's game against the Carolina RailHawks at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at Community First Park. Winn-Dixie will also be giving away a reusable shopping bag to the first 2,500 fans to arrive to the United FC match.
"We are pleased to partner with Winn-Dixie in doing our part to help fight hunger in Northeast Florida," said Armada FC President Steve Livingstone. "Our club is committed to consistently making a positive impact on our community, and we are proud to bring attention to such a worthy cause."
According to a study by Feeding Northeast Florida and Feeding America released in August 2014, an estimated 322,300 people in 17 Northeast Florida counties turn to food pantries and meal service programs to feed themselves and their families, and 29 percent are children under age 18 while 15 percent are seniors age 60 or older.
"Feeding Northeast Florida is grateful to our valued partner Winn-Dixie and the Jacksonville Armada for the opportunity to shine a light on the issue of hunger," said Feeding Northeast Florida President & CEO Bruce Ganger. "We especially want to thank those Armada fans who will bring food donations providing much-needed assistance for those who struggle to feed themselves and their families in the community."
