Florida Flame News Release

NAPLES, Fla. - Shawnson Johnson tallied a team-high 18 points and the Arkansas RimRockers dominated the second half to pull away for a 104-84 victory over the Florida Flame on Saturday night at the Community School of Naples Fieldhouse. The RimRockers, who trailed at halftime 45-40, outscored Florida 64-39 over the final two quarters to earn the preseason victory.

Playing its first game as a member of the NBA Development League, Arkansas put on a dominating offensive performance in the third quarter, outscoring the Flame 35-24 in the stanza to take a 75-69 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the RimRockers turned on their defense, holding Florida to just 15 points in the period to pull away.

"We hit some key shots in the second half," said Arkansas Head Coach Joe Harge. "We turned the ball over too much, but I felt we hit some threes when we needed them and we also proved we're a good transition team as well. I'm excited about our kids and our progress."

Six players scored in double figures for the RimRockers. Along with Johnson's 18, Chris Shumate tallied 14, Clay Tucker and Brandon Dean posted 13 apiece, James Lang notched 11, while Harvey Thomas scored 10 points in the win.

Florida led 24-21 after one quarter and outscored Arkansas 21-19 in the second stanza to earn the five-point lead at the half, but the second half proved to be a different story with defensive breakdowns in the third quarter and offensive struggles in the fourth.

Four players scored in double figures for the Flame, led by a game-high 23 points from two-year NBA veteran, Theron Smith. The number one pick in the 2005 NBDL Draft, Andre Barrett, finished with 17 points, Josh Gross hit for 12 points, while Minnesota Timberwolves assigned player Bracey Wright scored 11 in the loss.

Arkansas opens its regular season schedule on Friday, November 25 against the Austin Toros at Alltel Arena. Florida opens its 2005-06 campaign on November 25 versus the Roanoke Dazzle at Germain Arena.
