Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting General Manager and Head Coach Bob Hamley announced today that the Sting has signed rookie forwards Gary Bining and Kyle McEwen to free agent contracts.
"Both players are left-handed forwards who will compete for roster spots in training camp and will hopefully add versatility to our offensive attack," said Hamley.
Bining was a first round draft choice (13th overall) of the Colorado Mammoth in 2006 but did not play last season. The Delta, British Columbia native played his college lacrosse at Ohio State, where he was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and helped lead the Buckeyes to two Great Western Lacrosse League Championships. This summer, he has played for Coquitlam of the Western Lacrosse Association where he ranked fifth on the team in scoring with 30 points (10G, 20A) in 16 regular season games.
Bining is joined by current Sting players Brandon Atherton, Brad MacDonald, Bruce Murray, Peter Veltman, and Andy Secore on Coquitlam, who will be competing for the Mann Cup Championship beginning Sept. 7.
McEwen has spent the past three seasons with the Langley Thunder of the WLA, recording 92 points (47G, 45A) in 46 games. He finished the 2007 season ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 40 points on 21 goals and 19 assists. Originally drafted by San Jose with the 21st overall pick in the 2003 NLL Entry Draft, the New Westminster, British Columbia native has yet to play in the league.
