Desert Dogs 11, Rafters 8

A late three-run rally by the Grand Canyon Rafters was not enough as the Phoenix Desert Dogs won 11-8 in a battle of the National Division. Kansas City Royals' prospect Donald Murphy gave a perfect 4-for-4 performance including a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

The game was won in the fifth inning when the Desert Dogs sent 11 batters to the plate. They scored six runs on six hits, with two walks, a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt. Casey Smith (ANA) and Ryan Howard (PHI) had three hits apiece. Smith scored once while Howard drove in two and scored twice.

For the Rafters, Kevin Thompson (NYY), Jason Bartlett (MIN), Jeff Francoeur (ATL), Curtis Granderson (DET) and Chris Shelton (DET) led the way with two hits apiece.

Javelinas 9, Scorpions 8

Down by one run in the bottom of the ninth the Peoria Javelinas scored two runs for a walk-off win before Scottsdale could record an out. A solo home run by leadoff hitter Ben Johnson (SD) tied the game at eight, and a single by Ryan Garko (CLE) scored Paul McAnulty (SD) for the game's winning run. Scottsdale had scored twice in the top of the ninth to take a one-run lead.

The Javelinas' offense started off slowly when Scottsdale starting pitcher Dustin Moseley (CIN) pitched three no-hit innings. Once Moseley left the game Peoria's offense came alive with four runs in the fourth inning, with one scoring on the first of two home runs by-Shin Soo Choo (SEA), who finished 2-for-3 with two home runs.

Four different Peoria players had multiple hit games. McAnulty was 3-for-5, Garko was 2-for-5, designated hitter Mike Huggins (BAL) was 2-for-4 and Jason Cooper (CLE) was 2-for-4 in the Javelinas' win.
