ArenaBowl XXI KaBOOM
July 2, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK - In honor of ArenaBowl XXI being played in New Orleans on July 29 (3 p.m. ET, ESPN on ABC), the Arena Football League and the Arena Football League Players Association (AFLPA) are partnering to build a KaBOOM! playground for a New Orleans elementary school on Thursday, July 26.
J.W. Johnson Elementary School was forced to close down for one year because of damage sustained from eight feet of flood water caused by Hurricane Katrina. When it heroically reopened, the 477 students found the only playground within walking distance had been turned into a F.E.M.A. trailer park.
"This playground is going to give our students a sense of hope, allow for more structured playtime, improve our student's physical long-term health and lift the spirits of the students, faculty/staff and the community," said DIONNE D. NICHOLS, M.Ed., M.A., assistant principal of J.W. Johnson Elementary.
Among the many volunteers participating in the build will be active AFL players who are members of the AFLPA's Executive Committee, including Philadelphia Soul QB TONY GRAZIANI, Nashville Kats DL JAMES BARON and Georgia Force WR CHRIS JACKSON.
In addition to the AFL and AFLPA, funding for the project was made possible by Aaron's, ADT, Champs Sports, Discover Card, Schutt Sports and the Teammates for Kids Foundation.
