TUPELO, MS--The Tupelo FireAnts will hit the road this week as they take on the Tennessee Valley Raptors in Huntsville, Alabama on Saturday, April 16th starting at 7:30pm.

The ‘Ants come into this week's game on a one-game winning streak following a 62-51 victory over the Evansville BlueCats last Friday night in Tupelo. The FireAnts are being out scored by an average of 34-47 so far this season. The offense is averaging 156 yards passing and 71 yards rushing for an average of 227 yards per game. The defense is averaging 165 yards passing and 86 yards rushing for an average of 251 yards allowed per game. A win for Tupelo could improve the FireAnts to within a half-game of first-place in the UIF-South Division.

The FireAnts offense is led by quarterback Tommy Miller, who is first in UIF in passing yards (624). Miller remains questionable for Saturday's road contest due to an injury sustained against the BlueCats. His main targets are wideouts Darryl Carter and Chris Rainey. Carter leads the league in receiving yards (300) and is second in receptions (21) including a league-high 11 catches in last week's game. The ground attack is lead by Rico McDonald, who is 4th in UIF in scoring (42 points), and 8th in receiving yards per game (34.2). The defensive line is anchored by Mancell Elam, who leads the league in forced fumbles (1), and is 5th in tackles for a loss (4). Linebacker Ricky Franklin is second in the league in tackles (27.5). Defensive back Terrell Sutton leads UIF in interceptions (3), while Bobby Hill is among the league leaders in tackles (13). Fellow DB Michael Gholar leads the league in passes defended (9), interceptions (3), and is 8th in tackles (19). After this week's game, the FireAnts return home to battle the Fort Wayne Freedom (2-0) next Saturday, April 23 at the BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
