Tupelo FireAnts News Release
The Tupelo FireAnts won over the Louisiana Rangers, 41-26, Saturday night at the BancorpSouth Center.
Saturday's win was an important bout for the FireAnts, now one game out of leading the Atlantic East Division. The 'Ants need to win the division in order to advance into post-season play, and with Saturday's win, they are one step closer.
In the game, rushing touchdowns came at the hands of Chris Rainey, Reggie Smith, and Damon Smith-who had two markers on the night. In the receiving department, Kevin Cooper gained the only passing TD of the evening. But, the real show was on the 'Ants Defense. DB Curtis Beals caught two key interceptions on the night, both events eventually leading to TD's for Tupelo. DB Bobby Hill also gained a TD on the night, coming in the form of an interception return for a touchdown.
QB Damon Smith completed 5 of 11 passes for 44 yards and 1 touchdown.
In the end, the FireAnts gained back their "fire", and the Rangers just could not rebound. Both teams will meet again in Alexandria on June 29th.
The FireAnts return to the Hill this Saturday as the Mississippi Fire Dogs from Biloxi come to town. Don't miss out as the FireAnts take on their in state rivals at the BancorpSouth Center. The first 500 kids through the door will receive a free FireAnts Frisbee, courtesy of KZ105. Kickoff is slated for 7:05pm. For more information, call the FireAnts at 620-BITE.
