Antoine Pettway Allocated to Flight

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., October 21 â Former University of Alabama guard and fan favorite Antoine Pettway has signed with the NBA's National Basketball Development League and will be allocated to the Huntsville Flight. NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert said Pettway will report to training camp in Huntsville on November 7.
Pettway, 6-0, 170 from Alberta, Ala., played in 126 games during his Crimson Tide career (2000-2004), averaging 6.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals. After walking on as a freshman in 2000-01 on an academic scholarship, Pettway earned a basketball scholarship in July of 2001. As a senior he started all 33 games while leading Alabama to its first-ever Elite 8 appearance in last season's NCAA Tournament, averaging 9.1 points and 3.5 assists.
"It's great to have a local guy coming to our camp," Flight head coach Ralph Lewis said. "He had a good career running the point at Alabama, and we're expecting him to work hard to try and be a part of our program."
Other collegiate highlights for Pettway include earning MVP honors in the 2002 Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic before finishing that junior season ranked third on the Alabama all-time, single-season three-point field goal percentage list at .408 (29-71). As a sophomore he backed up the acclaim garnered for his trademark shiny red basketball shoes by hitting the game-winning shot against Florida to lift Alabama to the 2002 Southeastern Conference regular season championship.
After finishing his career at Alabama and graduating with a BS in Biology in May 2004, Pettway went on to earn World Basketball Association Rookie of the Year honors while playing for the Kentucky Reach this past summer. He averaged 12.7 points and 4.6 assists while leading the Reach to an 11-9 record.
The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.) and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).
The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Twenty-eight (28) players have been called up the NBA on 39 separate occasions. Nine former NBDL coaches, five athletic trainers, six referees and 28 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The NBDL is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
