New York Dragons News Release
(June 27) The Dragons' offensive core has been stabilized for the next two years. Chris Anthony, Will Holder, Mike Horacek and Josh "Zeus" White have signed two-year contract extensions to keep them as members of the Dragons through the 2007 season. The quartet of players, plus the already-signed Aaron Garcia, represents a growing nucleus the Dragons believe will lead them to the ArenaBowl in the near future.
"Considering the success we had this past year, it was very important to get this core group of players re-signed," said Dragons head coach Weylan Harding. "They were all big contributors and we want to build some continuity."
Horacek was the Dragons' leading receiver in 2005 with 93 receptions for 1,210 yards and 31 touchdowns. He split the season at offensive specialist and wide receiver/linebacker and registered two interceptions. For his efforts in the Dragons' Week Five 61-37 victory over the Arizona Rattlers, Horacek was named the league's US Army Ironman of the Week. In the contest he recorded five receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns, plus an interception return for a touchdown. In Horacek's prolific eight-season AFL career, he has recorded 597 receptions for 7,724 yards and 167 touchdowns.
Anthony had his breakout season in his third year in the AFL and with the Dragons. He was the team's second leading receiver with 81 receptions for 779 yards and 19 touchdowns. Anthony had a team-high 12 receptions in their playoff game versus Orlando and also recorded two 10-reception games during the regular season. For his career, he has 197 receptions for 2,185 yards and 50 touchdowns.
Holder was voted the team Ironman of the Year for his outstanding two-way play. In twelve games, Holder was the Dragons' third-leading receiver by recording 48 receptions for 596 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was also key on special teams as he finished the season ranked third in the AFL in combined kick returns for touchdowns with five. He also led the team in all-purpose yards with 1,317 while finishing the season with four interceptions. In 40 career games, Holder has recorded 81 receptions for 2,196 yards and 51 touchdowns with six interceptions and 12 pass breakups on defense.
During his second AFL season in 2005, White became the Dragons' primary fullback/linebacker. He was fourth in the AFL in rushing scores with twelve and fifth in yards with 180. White also made his presence felt defensively with 32.0 tackles, one interception and four quarterback hurries. In his two year career, White has seven receptions for 111 yards (all in 2005) with 66 rushes for 247 yards and 19 scores.
