Visalia Rawhide News Release

Thursday night the Oaks and Ports went at it again in game three of this six game series. Jeff Niemann made his Recreation Park debut after making his first professional start last week in Bakersfield. It would be a different story this time for Niemann though.

Both teams scored in their first four at bats. The Ports greeted Niemann with a leadoff homerun by Luke Appert. They would also get a double by Daric Barton to take a 2-0 lead. The Oaks, getting famous for answering quickly scored two, in the bottom of the first. The first three batters for the Oaks all had hit and Jay Sitman, who had the third straight hit drove in the first run for the Oaks that made it 2-1.The hit was followed by a Joey Gomes groundout that tied the score at 2-2.

After the Ports scored two more in the top of the second, the Oaks this time countered with three runs to make it a 5-4 game. The lead for the Oaks was short lived as Stockton scored a run in the top of the third to tie the game at 5-5. The Oaks once again answered the bell, having their second straight three run inning taking back the lead at 8-5. Jeff Niemann's night ended as he went three innings allowing four hits, five runs (four earned), with two walks, and four strikeouts.

Both teams would exchange runs in the fourth and seventh to make it 10-7. After a scoreless eight, Oaks closer Tony Peguero who came on in the top half of the eighth, tried to close it out but it would not be easy. With one already in and the bases loaded with one away, Peguero induced to straight fly ball to left including a game saving grab in the left centerfield gap by Joey Gomes and the Oaks won 10-8.

The Oaks and Ports continue their six game series with game four on Friday starting at 7:05 PM. It will be right-hander Jean Machi for the Oaks vs. lefty Trent Peterson. The pre-game show starts at 6:50, you can hear all the action on KJUG AM 1270 or log onto the Web at www.kjug.com.
