For the second consecutive Saturday, the Lancaster Stormers watched a huge early lead evaporate in the middle innings.
Long Island erased an 8-2 Stormers edge, built of five home runs, with a seven-run fifth inning and went on to defeat Lancaster, 14-10, for their third win out of five this week at Penn Medicine Park.
Jason Bollman fanned Terrell Tatum, his eighth strikeout of the night, to open the fifth inning. He never retired another batter. Jacob Robson reached on a broken bat single to right and stole second. Wilmer Difo, Gavin Collins and Anthony Garcia each walked to force home one run before Henry Kusiak lined a three-run double into the left field corner to slice the lead to 8-6.
Richie Dell (2-1) took over and struck out Marcus Chiu for the second out of the frame. Jorge Bonifacio walked and took second on a wild pitch. Aaron Antonini fell behind, 0-2, before slicing a game-tying double into the left field corner. He scored on a single up the middle off second baseman Nick Lucky's glove as the Ducks pushed ahead, 9-8.
A leadoff homer to center by Anthony Garcia, an RBI single to right by Antonini and a throwing error pushed the lead to 12-8, and the Ducks never looked back.
Corey Rosier and Aaron Schunk homered on the first two pitches thrown by Clark Candiotti. Mason Martin slugged a pair of long balls, good for five runs, and Tyler Miller chimed in with a solo shot over the next three frames to build the 8-2 edge.
Jacob Asa (4-1) earned the win for Long Island.
Matt Swarmer (3-5) will make the Sunday start for the Stormers against right-hander Michael Dominguez (5-4) in a rematch of Tuesday's 10-6 Lancaster win. Fans may follow the action on Dugout TV, powered by Home Team Network, starting at 1:20.
NOTES: Martin has three homers in five games since returning from Mexico...Nathan Martorella singled in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to 13 games...There were 15 walks in the game...Right-hander Dalton Mall, a native of the Kansas City suburbs, threw a scoreless inning in his Atlantic League debut.
