MOBILE, Ala. - The Los Angeles Angels announced that left-handed pitcher Jose Suarez will join the Mobile BayBears from Class A Advanced Inland Empire. He is scheduled to make his first Double-A start Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium against the Biloxi Shuckers.

Suarez, 20, started two games for Inland Empire this month. He allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits with one walk and 18 strikeouts in nine innings pitched. Suarez is in his fourth professional season after signing with the Angels as an international free agent on July 3, 2014.

After joining Class A Burlington last June, the Venezuelan southpaw went 6-1 with a 3.28 ERA and struck out 90 batters over 68 2/3 innings, an average of 11.8 per nine innings. Suarez was named a 2017 MiLB.com Angels Organization All-Star.

Suarez is currently the Angels No. 6 pitching prospect, and he is ranked No. 12 overall in the organization, according to MLB Pipeline. The BayBears roster now includes three of the top six Angels pitching prospects, with Suarez joining Griffin Canning and Jesus Castillo.

In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Dylan Unsworth has been promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake. In two starts with the BayBears, he struck out 10 batters and only issued one walk. Unsworth gave up six runs, five earned, in nine innings pitched.
