Akron Racers News Release
AKRON, OH - The Akron Racers are continuing to celebrate their 15th Season of Play by recognizing the 30 players who have had the biggest impact on the development of their franchise. The next IMPACT honoree to be recognized by the Racers is former pitcher Angela Tincher.
"Angela Tincher carved out an amazing career at every level," remembered GM Joey Arrietta. "Her tenacity and work ethic was stellar and she carried herself with so much poise and pride. Her contribution to the game is worth applauding once again."
After having an outstanding career at Virginia Tech, Tincher was drafted in the first round of the 2008 National Pro Fastpitch draft by the Racers with the third overall pick. In her rookie season, Tincher wasted no time making her mark on the game, she struck out an amazing 157 batters, an Akron Racer record for a single season that still stands to this day. In fact, that strikeout total positions Tincher 11th all-time by a pitcher in the combined WPF-WPSL-NPF history.
In addition to strikeouts, Tincher also led the Racers in innings pitched with 131.2, a number that tied her for second in the 2008 NPF season, and her 21 starts led the NPF. Tincher topped the Racer pitching staff with nine complete games and 12 wins, while compiling a staff-best 2.03 ERA, which placed her fourth in the NPF. Her performance earned Tincher an All-NPF selection.
In addition to her performance throughout the 2008 season, Tincher also put on a show in an exhibition game against Team USA. Tincher already had a no-hit performance on her resume while in college, when the Hokies beat Team USA as the National Team prepared to compete the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Tincher was nearly as good in the re-match with the eventual Olympic Silver Medalists. She threw two perfect innings for the Racers to start the game and gave up just one run on two hits and a walk in three innings of work. The Racers gained a 2-1 advantage before Tincher left the circle midway through the exhibition game that was seen by an Akron Racer record crowd of 6,256 fans in attendance that night.
Following her successful rookie season, Tincher elevated her game in 2009. Tincher once again led Akron with a 1.78 ERA and finished second to then-rookie Lisa Norris with 59.0 innings, nine starts and six wins, while recording 67 strikeouts. Her performance, once again, earned her a spot on the All-NPF Team.
In just a two-year career with the Racers, Tincher recorded the fifth most strikeouts in franchise history with 224 and has given up the fifth fewest amount of hits by a pitcher with at least 100 innings of work with 122 in 190.2 innings. In her time in Akron, Tincher started 30 games, threw 16 complete games. Her 1.95 career ERA places Tincher seventh among the all-time pitchers ever to wear an Akron uniform.
Tincher's illustrious career will be celebrated alongside the rest of the IMPACT Honorees on July 15-17 when Akron hosts the Dallas Charge for a three-game series. Among other festivities, Tincher and 29 other greats will be recognized in a ceremony celebrating the Racers 15th Season of Play on July 16. Each honoree will receive a special commemorative jersey bearing their name and number.
