Angel City FC News Release
Angel City FC beat Club América Femenil 3-0 in last night's preseason friendly at BMO Stadium, their first public match of 2023.
Eighteen-year-old rookie forward Alyssa Thompson opened the scoring in the fifth minute, making a solo run out of pressure in the midfield, beating the final defender to get in on goal, and dribbling past goalkeeper Itzel González as she dove for the ball. Thompson calmly put away a left-footed finish into the empty net. The second half saw goals from defender Paige Nielsen and forward Simone Charley.
Match Recap
Yesterday we were proud to be a part of the launch of the Starting XI, alongside our partner Common Goal. Co-captains Ali Riley and Dani Weatherholt head up an international squad of 11 players from the NWSL, Liga MX Femenil, and WSL, all pledging 1% of their salaries in support of Football for Her. Angel City FC is matching the squad's contributions, doubling the funds advancing gender equity in our sport and providing girls and non-binary youth a safe place to play.
