Andre's Giant Game Garners High School Ironman Honors

SAN DIEGO – Mission Bay FB/SS Andre Wilson pulled off an amazing game last Friday against Morse as the Buccaneers prevailed 49-26 earning the 5-foot-11, 195-pound senior sandiegoriptide.com High School Ironman honors for the week of October 11-12.

Against the Tigers, Wilson scored five overall touchdowns and personally outscored Morse 30-26. He ran the ball nine times for 78 yards with scores of 3, 1 and 37 yards. Wilson is the primary blocker for the Bucs, who have ran for nearly 700 yards in the past two weeks.

Defensively, Wilson officially tallied nine tackles and returned an interception 81 yards for a TD. The on special teams, he blocked a PAT and a punt. He scooped up the blocked punt, then rumbled 20 yards for another score.

"Andre's performance was one of the finest this season by any of our weekly winner," said Riptide Head Coach Cree Morris, who visited the Bucs practice on Tuesday afternoon. "That was a complete game that is what this Ironman program is all about."

He will be honored prior to the Riptide's 2003 home opener with all the weekly award winners and the Ironman of the Year. The entire Mission Bay varsity football team will receive tickets to that game to support their teammate.

Additional tickets to that game will be available at discounted rates for family members, friends and classmates.

This Friday afternoon, Mission Bay hosts Lincoln with kickoff slated at 3:00pm. Mission Bay is located at 2475 Grand Ave., San Diego 92109.

To nominate a player for the "Ironman of the Week", please send in the player's name, high school, statistics and why that player should be nominated for that week's game.

Also, please include your name, address and phone number. You can fax it to 858.455.8379 (Attention Ironman) or e-mail us at ironman@sandiegoriptide.com. Nominations can come from players, coaches, family members, booster club members or fans. Everything will be verified before voting takes place.

At the end of the high school season a player will be selected as the "sandiegoriptide.com Ironman of the Year", and will be awarded a trophy at the Riptide's 2003 home opener. The qualifications will be contingent upon who had the best offensive and defensive season.
