Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans and Knighthawks announced today that the teams raised $27,954 in gross proceeds through its pink jersey auction and ticket sales for breast cancer research as part of the teams' "Pink in the Rink" promotion that was held at The Blue Cross Arena last weekend. All net proceeds from the event which amounted $15,026.71 will be distributed by both the Amerks and Knighthawks through their newly formed charitable foundation (Rochester Americans and Knighthawks Charitable Foundation).
"We are very pleased with our 'Pink in the Rink' promotion that took place this past weekend," said Amerks and Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "We had some fun playing hockey on pink ice and having both the Amerks and Knighthawks playing their games in pink jerseys. But along with the fun we also raised money for a very worthwhile cause and we would like to say thank you to all of our fans who made the fundraising so successful. We are also pleased that the donations, hopefully the first of many, to breast cancer research in and around the Rochester area are being made through our newly established charitable foundation."
The Amerks raised $8,580 in total proceeds for Breast Cancer research in its pink jersey auction. The auction was conducted Friday night during Rochester's American Hockey League contest with the Lake Erie Monsters. The players donned the special pink jerseys for the occasion and the ice surface at The Blue Cross Arena was even painted pink in honor of the night. The jerseys of goaltender Mike Brodeur and newcomer Matt Duffy were among the most popular, as each jersey was auctioned off for substantial amounts. Brodeur's jersey flew off the table with a $551 purchase, while Duffy's jersey was second to go with a $548 buy.
The Knighthawks' jersey auction generated the most money, raising $17,036 in total proceeds. The auction was held Saturday night during Rochester's National Lacrosse League contest with the Boston Blazers. The jersey of forward Scott Evans was tabbed with the highest bid of $900, while Jason Henhawk's No. 88 pink jersey was taken with the second highest bid of $888.
Additionally, the Amerks and Knighthawks also raised $2,338 in ticket revenue from that weekend and the teams will donate the proceeds to Breast Cancer research. For every $10 ticket that was sold to fans who wore pink, the Amerks and Knighthawks organization allotted $5 of each sale to benefit the cause.
